Hello there,
Thanks again for being part of this newsletter!
I wanted to share a quick update on Nerium, the digital mentalism magazine I quietly launched toward the end of last year.
The second issue is now available.
It arrived a little later than planned—life had its say—but it’s something I’m very proud of and am excited for people to try out!
Issue #2 explores a propless, verbal-only technique for influencing the category of concern a participant focuses on during a Q&A routine or reading. No writing, no props, no billets—and very much not for everyone.
This is a subtle, conversational approach I’ve used successfully for quite some time. Inside the issue, I break down the core technique and offer several ideas for how it can be applied in readings and Q&A contexts.
As with Nerium as a whole, the focus remains:
- Practical, performance-first thinking
- Methods that keep you present with the audience
- Material aimed at revealing concerns, thoughts, and meaning
If you haven’t yet explored Nerium, Issue #1 is still completely free. It introduces The Chessboard Oracle, a flexible reading system built around chess pieces, with applications for Q&A, invisible readings, and multi-person work.
Future issues are already in development and will explore things like:
- A full theatrical Q&A act with no pre-show and no memorization
- Additional propless and verbal reading techniques
- A spectator-as-mindreader routine involving an ungimmicked combo lock
- New thinking on classic structures like Bank Nite and tossed-out-style routines
Each issue stands alone. Pick them up when they interest you, skip them when they don’t.
You can find Issue #2, grab Issue #1 for free, and read more about the project here: https://JudahMagic.com/Nerium
As always, if you have any questions, just reply to this email and I’ll get back to you.
Best thoughts To All,
Judah Gabriel
