Hey there!
The new year is right around the corner and there are a few things it will be good for you to think through in order for you to be successful at reading the Bible through the year.
When are you planning to start?
Studies show that a person is several times more likely to stick to a habit when they plan when and where they are going to start. Take some time before the new year to think about what time of day fits into your schedule best. Early morning? Late in the evening? Over lunch? There are no wrong answers, but you have to decide what time works for you. It is also helpful to think through some alternative times in case the first one doesn’t work out.
Where are you going to start?
Like I mentioned, studies show that if you state where you are going to complete a habit, you are more likely to stick to it. Where you will be doing your reading is a vital question that can make or break your Bible reading priorities. This may change throughout the year, but it is important to think about it. For me, my best studying happens early in the morning at my kitchen table. My backup plan is to read at my desk at work during a break.
What about you? Where are you planning to read? Take some time this week to plan it out.
What is your plan to start?
These first two questions are important. But it is important to plan out how this is going to go. Pinning down when and where are the starting point. However there are still things you can do. I highly suggest inviting a friend to join you on this endeavor. They can sign up for this newsletter, or you can forward it to them in order to keep you accountable.
Another thing to think through is what will you do if you get behind or have a bad day? It is important to commit to working through the pain. Remember that the goal is not to read the Bible in a year, but to hear from God through his word. Keep that in mind as you go forward with this plan. I promise you that you will have bad days, we’ll call them “Rainy Days” where you will miss your reading. That’s okay. We aren’t checking boxes here, we are getting to know the God of the universe.
You Got This
Hey, I believe in you. I know that you can do this. You just have to convince yourself that you can do this! Start with these simple exercises. Determine when and where. Talk to some friends about it and make a plan for the rainy days in life. This will be a huge leg up for later. Write down the answers to the questions and tuck them in your bible. You can also respond to this post with your answers and have the community keep you accountable. Like I said, you got this.
