Enjoy your weekend! 🕶
First Things First (Daily Reminders):
- Have you said hello to God today? If not, why not say howdy? ☺️
- What is something you’re grateful for that happened yesterday (breathing counts if that’s all you’ve got)?
- Will you please try to help someone today (even if it’s just a text to check in)?
- Would you please remember our YoChurch community in your prayers?
Verse of the Week:
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
News:
Desperate poverty made worse by covid response
This story from Brazil is telling but also confusing. It was well known from the outset that political covid reactions would make life the most worse for the poorest. A 70% increase in basic goods’ prices was not predicted. It’s unclear what is driving prices higher. Inflation? It’s also unclear what could be done to help. Or if this pattern is headed for the United States. Link: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/4/11/tragic-combination-millions-go-hungry-brazil-covid-crisis
Covid survival yields lasting covid immunity
Because every article I find about vaccines fails to mention or consider that natural immunity after covid is a thing that is real and contributes to herd immunity even without a vaccine, here’s an NIH study from a few months ago:
The researchers found durable immune responses in the majority of people studied. Antibodies against the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, which the virus uses to get inside cells, were found in 98% of participants one month after symptom onset. As seen in previous studies, the number of antibodies ranged widely between individuals. But, promisingly, their levels remained fairly stable over time, declining only modestly at 6 to 8 months after infection.
Virus-specific B cells increased over time. People had more memory B cells six months after symptom onset than at one month afterwards. Although the number of these cells appeared to reach a plateau after a few months, levels didn’t decline over the period studied.
Levels of T cells for the virus also remained high after infection. Six months after symptom onset, 92% of participants had CD4+ T cells that recognized the virus. These cells help coordinate the immune response. About half the participants had CD8+ T cells, which kill cells that are infected by the virus.

Yes, natural infection is even immune to variants

Why ignore natural immunity and use rare and effective vaccines on the already immune instead of passing them on to rest of the world? Why not treat the naturally immune as immune? The answers are uncertain but not backed by actual science and they extend human suffering, the economic damage, and increase the odds of more dangerous variants being produced as the unprotected inevitably get covid when they don’t need to. It’s the ultimate misinformation campaign with literally deadly consequences both physically and economically for all of us.
Motivation Monday
Is discipline freedom? Maybe! Freedom from food if you’re fasting! I’m planning to try an extended no calorie fast. Starting... now! Prayers appreciated! And yes my doctor blessed the effort. A week of fasting to start, but hopefully longer. The longest recorded time anyone has gone without food is 382 days. 😳 https://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/fp/tale-angus-barbieri-fasted-year-lost-21-stone/
Here’s a modern doctor who advocates fasting (with medical approval- it’s not right for everyone) https://qz.com/quartzy/1428139/a-fasting-experts-tips-for-making-it-to-your-next-meal/
