BOS newsletter 10th March

Message from Karen:

I hope BSO members enjoyed a well-deserved break last week and that BS members had a good rehearsal.

I am delighted to be able to report that there were sufficient people prepared to contribute financially to Bedford Sinfonia to enable the committee to make a decision that it should continue. If you responded positively to the survey asking whether you would be prepared to contribute, you should hear from your section leader shortly. If you didn’t respond positively to the request for a financial contribution but would like to continue to play with Bedford Sinfonia and you are now prepared to make a contribution please contact me via [email protected] or 07966 410984. Please also contact me (in complete confidence) if your reason for not saying you would contribute is due to financial hardship.

I am looking forward to dropping in on both BSO and BS rehearsals in the near future.

Karen x

From the Committee:

Section Leaders’ Meeting: NEW DATE - next week

Wednesday 18th March 6-6.45pm

This is our second meeting this season (and our third since starting this Summer 2025) for all Section Leaders and Leaders (and Committee members) across BSO and Sinfonia to allow you to discuss musical and organisational issues together, decide on action and think about how to make life easier!

So far, Leaders and Section Leaders have talked about different ways of sharing information with their section members, for example, and agreed on etiquette for asking questions in rehearsals and giving info in advance on repertoire being rehearsed, just to give a few examples.

If you are a Section Leader, please come if you can!

Here is the link to join: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/7044421352?omn=85449493589

Ann Collins will be facilitating this meeting on Zoom.  Notes will be shared afterwards, but there won't be a recording.

Rehearsals:

Wednesday 11th March

BGI

7.30-9.30pm

Message from Bjorn: What an incredible concert!!! Full house (chocolate oranges…??) and an amazingly musical and authoritative performance from you all. What a joy to make music together. Jakub was very complimentary about the orchestra and loved the Sibelius and said the Brahms was beautiful and full of musical integrity and shape.  He told me afterwards that he could not believe the standard of the orchestra and that the professional Polish Orchestras do not have as good horns! Well done Kate and team! The woodwind section are now full of soloistic vigour and string ensemble really tight and strong bass and cellos. Beautiful solo from Caroline in the Brahms! Brass sounded great and well done Leo on timps!

Next week: Wagner and Bruckner first and last.

Sinfonia Information:

Message from Ann for Publicity:

Many thanks to those who have agreed to help with Publicity moving forward!

I'm absolutely delighted to tell you that Georgina Murphy Clifford has agreed to take over as Publicity Officer on the Committee. She's going to be joining the Committee in April, giving us a few months to do a handover.

As many of you know, Georgina brings a wealth of experience in music education, performing, collaborations and managing of events, both nationally and locally and a passion for bringing classical music to as many as possible. We are so privileged to have her on the BOS Committee and in our world, and I can't wait to see where she leads us! Huge thanks to her for joining us.

There are some other new members of the Publicity team now and I will be introducing them in the next few weeks after we've finalised a few last details! Thanks to them for taking the plunge! We have new volunteers to look after our BOS Youth Ambassadors, the Flyers Distribution Team and the digital ticketing platform.

You may meet Jamie Williams this week, our wonderful Marketing Graduate doing work experience with us at the moment. He is planning on calling in to rehearsals in the coming weeks to get some film footage/photos. He is designing our artwork for next season, working with us on planning for our anniversary season, making a promotional video and did photos for me at our last BSO concert! If he has time, we're planning a few short films for him to make about some members of BOS who have stories to tell about their musical journeys that we can use on social media and on our website to celebrate our anniversary next season... Fabulous work! Thanks to him!

Exciting times! The more people who help, the more we can do! Thank you!

Best wishes

Ann

Message from Jo, Treasurer:

I just wanted to let everyone know that following my appeal on Saturday, Stewart Sneddon (Olivia (violin)’s Dad) has very kindly offered to help us with getting the large timp to the Corn Exchange for the Choral Society Concert on 21st March. We are immensely grateful. Thank you so much Stewart and Olivia.

Very best wishes to all
