Dear All
The questionnaire for BS members closed yesterday. However, I am conscious that not everyone received it in good time. If you haven’t received it and would like to, please email me and I will send it to you.
PLEASE NOTE: BSO's open rehearsal on Wednesday will be at Bedford Modern School (as BGI had double-booked themselves). There is plenty of parking on site. Please come to the main door as close as possible to 7pm. I will be able to let you in. If you are going to arrive late, please make sure you have a number of an orchestra member who can let you in.
As I have said before, BOS's committee is VERY stretched at the moment. We need a secretary and an orchestra manager. I am only chair because nobody else was willing to take it on. I have now been doing it for 6 months and am looking to hand it on within the next 6 months. Ann Collins would also like to hand over part or all of her role. I am very grateful to all those people who have taken on small jobs but, without the committee, the orchestra will not function. If you are AT ALL interested in helping BOS to continue, please drop me a line and we can have a chat what might suit you.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at BMS on Wednesday.
Karen x

Message from Ian:
If any members of the Sinfonia wish to see the Verdi Requiem parts in advance then please get in touch with me as I have the parts already.
Just a reminder that we are doing the reduced orchestration. This still requires multiple string players but in the wind and brass only:
1, 1, 1, 1: 1, 1, 1, 0: T: BD + 2 off-stage trumpets
Message from Ann for Publicity:
Tickets!!!! Please!!!
400 seats, 315 still to sell... we can do it!
Remember a Terry's Chocolate Orange could be yours if you sell your quota, which is 10 tickets each please!
Book tickets here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/bedfordshire-orchestral-society
Please note that tickets are NOT available at the Corn Exchange Box Office, but we will have some paper tickets available at the BSO rehearsal for you to buy after half term.
Beginning with the effervescent Ruslan and Ludmila overture by Glinka, the orchestra is then joined by star soloist Jakub Jakowicz for Sibelius's atmospheric Violin Concerto.
Finally, BSO will perform the grandiose First Symphony by Brahms. A programme full of excitment and emotion - not to be missed!
Tickets are FREE for all children (18 and under) and we have a fabulous violin soloist. All young violin students mustn't miss out on this opportunity to see him play and hopefully talk to him at the interval too!
The venue is super comfortable and warm! It's going to be a great evening that will be relaxed, family friendly and welcoming. We have a Front of House team, together with the BOS Youth Ambassadors, lined up ready to welcome you and your guests!
Please note: there are fantastic discounts for groups!
Closing date: next Monday! I hope to see all our young players who are studying music putting in their entries! We would love to see your work and celebrate it! For further info: go to the website home page
Best wishes
Ann

From our friends
From Peter Bussereau:
Peter Bussereau is with friends, including members of the BBC Concert Orchestra, in a concert in aid of the Luton Foodbank. The one hour concert will include the serene Prelude to Richard Strauss’ opera Capriccio and Tchaikovsky’s glorious Souvenir de Florence. There’s on site parking, comfortable seating and post concert refreshments. To serve a space email [email protected].
From Paul Sharrock: He recommends this playday and said he did it last year and enjoyed it and is already signed up for this one!
There is a great flyer too, which unfortunately our email platform doesn't like, so click on the link to see more details!
