BOS newsletter 6th October 2025

Dear All

Firstly, many thanks to all those who came to our online AGM last Thursday evening - it was wonderful to see so many people and to get your support.  For those unable to come or log on, the minutes will soon be available via the members’ area on the website.

As no-one came forward to be Chair of BOS, on behalf of the Committee, I approached Karen Mason to ask her if she would be willing to step in for a year and I’m delighted to say that she has agreed!

Karen has a huge amount of experience in this area and is known by many of our members.  We’re very grateful to her! She is also going to cover the BSO Orchestra Manager role. We’re working on a handover and you will hear more in the coming couple of weeks.

With many thanks to Karen!  We look forward to welcoming her onto the Committee.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Thanks

Ann

Message from Ann for Publicity and Outreach:

Our first Open Rehearsal of the season is coming up on November 5th where visitors can see BSO in action. This will be a very special one aimed at GCSE Music groups.  Teachers have been talking to me about the need for their students to see “real” musicians at work and to experience being in a rehearsal where they can see up close how it all works.  Our November programme is a good one for the students with lots of excitement and many examples of the elements that they will be studying.

A number of GCSE teachers are already in contact with me and they are very positive about this initiative.  Places are limited!  If you know of a school who may be interested, please put them in contact: [email protected]  They will need to book in with me and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Of course, tickets for school groups are FREE.

Please note that all safeguarding/risk assessments need to be undertaken by the schools themselves as we can’t take any responsibility for the children.

Best wishes

Ann
