BOS newsletter 20th Oct 2025

Dear All

Firstly, massive congratulations to Sinfonia and thanks to Ian Smith, who have had a fabulous week with a mention on Radio 3 and a great concert yesterday as part of the Malcolm Arnold Festival in Northampton! I heard that it went very well and that the soloists were great. With coffee and homemade cake laid on for you too, it sounded like an enjoyable experience all round!

Karen and I are mid-handover in terms of the Chair role! Thank you for your patience whilst we sort out the final bits and pieces.

From now, to reach Karen, pelase email: [email protected]

I will be continuing with the Publicity and sending out the newsletter, so you can still hit reply to reach me or email me on my personal email address: [email protected].

Please note that our "from our friends" section is a space where you can share timely and relevant information for our Members. If you'd like to put something in, please email to me before midday on Friday for the Monday newsletter. If you have a graphic or an image, it's better. I can't promise to include everything, but if it is relevant to lots of people (and is music related!), I'm happy to put it in.

With best wishes

Ann

Concerts at St Andrew’s: Carolyn Sampson and Joseph Middleton, Saturday 8th November 2025 at St Andrew’s Church

The concert is going to be preceded at 6.45pm by a Q&A session, with Ian Smith leading the discussion and Carolyn, Joseph and the composer Deborah Pritchard contributing.

The performance will begin at 7.30pm. Sir Roger Wright will provide some introductions. The evening will include music by Bach, Britten, Poulenc and Purcell. Joseph will perform Erik Satie to show off the piano; as you know the St Andrew's Church Choir will also sing. There will be the world premiere of a new song cycle by Deborah Pritchard, featuring settings of poems by John Clare, Siegfried Sassoon and Emily Dickinson among others.
