Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Tax Payment to the CRA

I hope you're doing well.


To help you make your tax payment to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) smoothly, I’ve put together a step-by-step guide based on the CRA’s official website. You can also refer to the CRA's page directly here:


🔗 How to Make a Payment to the CRA


Payment Options & Instructions


You can choose from the following methods:


1. Online Banking (Most Recommended)


This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to pay.


Steps:

  1. Log in to your online banking platform.
  2. Add a new payee. Search for:
  1. Use your 9-digit Social Insurance Number (SIN) as the account number.
  2. Enter the payment amount and submit.


2. CRA My Payment


This is a secure online payment service from the CRA using Interac Debit, Visa Debit, or Mastercard Debit.


Steps:

  1. Go to: CRA: My Payment
  2. Choose the type of payment (e.g., "Personal Income Tax").
  3. Follow the prompts to complete your payment using your debit card.

⚠ Note: This option only works with participating banks.


3. Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD)


Set up a one-time or recurring payment directly from your bank account.


Steps:

  1. Log in to your CRA My Account: CRA Login
  2. Go to "Accounts and Payments" → "Manage Pre-authorized Debits" on extreme right.
  3. Enter your banking info and schedule the payment.


4. Third-Party Service Providers (Credit Card, PayPal, etc.)


You can use providers like PaySimply, Plastiq, or others.


Steps:

  1. Visit CRA Third-Party Payment Options
  2. Choose your provider and follow their instructions to pay by credit card, PayPal, etc.
  3. Be aware that service fees may apply.

⚠ Note: Processing time is 5 business days.


5. In Person at Your Bank


You can pay in person at your financial institution.


Steps:

  1. Bring your remittance voucher (RC158) with you to the bank.
  2. Make the payment via debit or cheque.

📌 If you don’t have a remittance voucher, you can request one from the CRA by calling at 1-800-959-5525.


6. By Mail (Cheque or Money Order)


Steps:

  1. Make your cheque or money order payable to "Receiver General for Canada."
  2. Write your SIN, tax year, and contact number on the back.
  3. Include a remittance voucher if you have one.
  4. Mail it to the below mentioned address:

OR


You can drop off the cheque on the locations mentioned at CRA Office and dropbox locations - Canada.ca
