πŸ“• Which book changed your life?

One prompted a career. Another led to a friend. What about you?

We're all readers here, so I feel like we can safely say we understand the power of novels.

But has one changed your life?

Kat Young shared just that sort of story with me in response to my earlier question about a book you can't get out of your head:

"The book that has stayed with me the longest is 'People of the Book' by Geraldine Brooks, as it lead me to my current career. I'm currently studying a Master of Museum Studies, where I'm hoping to look into technology to read handwritten documents online."

Isn't that cool? (Thanks, Kat, for letting me share it!)

It got me wondering about the many ways fiction has influenced real life, altering the course we're on or steadying it.

For instance:

If I hadn't loved Robin Hood stories as a kid and decided to write my own contribution, I'm not sure I would have been an author as an adult.

If I hadn't loved a particular fantasy series, I never would have met my best friend.

In fact, many of the important people in my life I met through books. (Thank you, fiction, for directing me toward kindred spirits!)

And, semi-related, there isn't a book I've written that hasn't changed me in some way. When you dig deep to understand your characters better, you come out the other side understanding yourself in new ways, too.

Now: What about you?

Tell me your story about a big or small way a novel made an impact on your life.

And thanks again, Kat!
