Do you πŸ‘€ or πŸ‘‚your πŸ“š?

If you have the option, do you prefer to read books with your eyes or your ears?

When I had a long commute by car, I listened to books constantly. Then I switched to the train, which meant I could read either way. Or write. (Mostly I wrote. Thank you, train, for a good bit of the Clandestine Magic trilogy.)

But I still have a very soft spot for audiobooks, and as I'm working to make audio versions of that trilogy, I'd love to hear how you consume books. Are you a text-on-the-page reader all the way? Audio only? Does it depend on the narrator or the genre or whether you think a particular book pairs well with chores?

My mother (who's on this list, actually β€” hi, Mom!) listens to books all the time. She's an excellent knitter, always working on a project, and an audiobook lets her disappear into a world while creating something beautiful. That's pretty awesome multitasking.

After I recommended a book I really enjoyed in the last email, she reported back to say it has an audio version and she'd started listening to it. I'd read it as an ebook on my phone, which is how I read most things these days. Either way, a good book is immersive, but it's certainly a different reading experience. One of my fond childhood memories is of listening to a full-cast production of The Hobbit every summer on the way to and back from family vacation.

So: What's your history with audiobooks? Hit reply to let me know. πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ

P.S. Here's a (well loved and therefore well worn) pair of fingerless mittens my mother made that I think look perfectly magical:

A few more cool & bookish things

An apartment manager unclogging drains for werewolves and counseling vampires. The daughter of the king of the Underworld on a quest to clear her name. A witch on the run from the Anti-Magic Security Force. If you're looking for free books with strong female characters, you'll find a bunch here.

Two thieves trying to steal the same rare text. Little Red Riding Hood with a dystopian twist. A necromancer who would really rather not raise the dead, thanks very much. Here's where you can find those fantasy books and more, free to read in Kindle Unlimited.
