Do you know who really doesn't like book bans?
Well, hopefully most people. But for the purposes of this conversation: fantasy romance authors and readers.
The Fantasy Romance February celebrations this month include not one but two efforts raising money to fight book bans.
All the proceeds go to PEN America, which champions the freedom to write (something that goes hand-in-hand with the freedom to read).
The fun part is that you'll get something immediate for your donation beyond warming the cockles of your heart.
Option 1: The fantasy romance anthology Romantasy Rebels, on sale only through the end of the month. Twenty-six books in one, with authors including Jeffe Kennedy, Stephanie Burgis and Casey Blair.
Option 2: A charity auction packed full of special editions and other cool stuff from 100-plus authors.
I don't have special editions, so I offered up something you really can't get anywhere else. A short story, written by me, off your prompt.
Itching for a fantasy romance where the love interests are running rival spellcasting schools?
Or where one character's accidental poisoning requires an embarrassing emergency visit to their sworn enemy?
Or where nothing at all stressful happens and the love interests just banter and admire each other's enticingly rolled-up sleeves?
You can have it, or whatever it is you'd like to see ... if you win.
The bidding starts low for everything in the auction, so take a shot at the stuff you want. You might well get lucky. And you'll be helping save books.
Just remember to bid (or swoop in to bid again) before Feb. 25 at 11:45 p.m. Eastern.
Look at you, standing up for books! You rock!
P.S. On a more general book note: I've got a FaRoFeb giveaway going for the next few days. You can enter here.
You made it to the end! You're awesome. (Of course.) And oh hey, here are my latest books and here are all my book gifts to you.
