Need to Pass the DET? Here’s How to Ace It in 2025!

Hi 👋 Teacher Luke here,

I know preparing for the Duolingo English Test can feel tough, but don't stress!

I'm here to help 👨‍🏫

I've put together my top 5 tips to not only help you pass the DET, but really ace it!

Top 5 Tips to Ace the DET ✅

1️⃣ Familiarize Yourself with the Question Types

The DET includes 13 different question types that assess your listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. Knowing all the question types inside and out is your first step toward success.

2️⃣ Focus on Your Production Subscore

The Production Subscore, which measures your speaking and writing skills, is a common challenge for test-takers—and it’s also a key requirement for many universities.

These 8 question types directly impact your Production Score:

• Summarize the Conversation
• Write About the Photo
• Speak About the Photo
• Read Then Write
• Read Then Speak
• Listen Then Speak
• Writing Sample
• Speaking Sample

But, don't worry, my program on DET Ready VIP ⭐️ will help you!

4️⃣ Practice Makes Perfect—Especially Timed Practice

Regular, timed practice is key to managing the pace of the DET. My Full Test videos on YouTube (I’ve made over 20!) and the Practice Platform on practice.detready.com are great tools to help you prepare.

5️⃣ Know the Rules

Avoid test-day mistakes by following these essential rules:

• Don’t use memorized answers for speaking and writing.
• Keep your eyes on the screen.
• Don’t use tools like Grammarly.
• Don’t take notes.
• Make sure you’re in a room alone.

Master these tips, and you’ll be well on your way to acing the DET.
