Hi, Teacher Luke here 👋
Big news!
There has been an update to the set-up process on the Duolingo English Test! But, don't worry it's not complicated at all. 😮💨
Starting today, October 28, 2024, you’ll need to use a secondary camera when taking the Duolingo English Test.
This means using your phone to record your computer screen and keyboard. Don’t worry—it’s easy, and I walk you through it in this video 👇 (Or just read the rest of this email)

Quick Setup Guide
Make sure you have:
- A fully charged phone (or keep it plugged in throughout the test).
- Something sturdy, like a mug or a book, to prop up your phone (or a phone stand if you have one).
- "Do Not Disturb" mode on your phone to avoid interruptions.
On Test Day:
- Open the Duolingo Test app on your computer and sign in.
- When prompted, scan the QR code on your screen with your phone’s camera.
- Position your phone to the side of your computer, angled to show both the screen and keyboard.
You’ll see a video feed from your phone on your computer, so you can adjust until everything fits.
Tips for a Smooth Test Experience
- Keep your phone recording: Don’t close the browser or touch the recording.
- Position your phone correctly: Ensure your screen and keyboard are fully visible in the frame.
- No fancy equipment needed: A mug or book to prop your phone is perfect. Just make sure it’s stable!
