Fire and I have a complicated relationship. I grew up in rural Idaho where burning fields was a part of farm life. I've seen the benefits fire brings to growing new things, but I've also witnessed once when it got out of hand and burned down fences and the roof of a shed. It spread faster than you could keep up with it, and the smoke coated every fiber of my being, inside and out. Fortunately no was was hurt, but it left a lasting impression on me.
Fire has a mind of its own.
I tapped into that duality of fire's benevolence and destruction for Running into Fire, Book 3 of the Magic of Nasci series. Some forests need fire to break open pine cones to start new sapling growth, but when that spark lights an abnormally dry landscape, you can expect flames that run out of control.
Fires rage across Oregon’s coastal forests. Ina vows to stop them, no matter the cost.
As a shepherd of Nasci, Ina knows all about banishing mystical beasts, but this time is different. Strange portals appear in unlikely places. Forest fires burn out of control. Even the monsters responsible for the chaos aren’t acting normal.
What can Ina do? She’s still only a novice elemental wizard, and her superiors believe she’s too headstrong to stop the rash of destruction.
But Ina’s not one to sit on the sidelines. If her mentor Guntram and game warden Vincent won’t help her, she’ll find another way to solve this mystery, even if it means bending rules that could destroy her.
Available September 2, 2020 as an Amazon eBook, paperback, and in Kindle Unlimited.
