Coming down from a holiday weekend here in the United States, it seems like many people are emerging from their pandemic shells and traveling once again. My husband's post-surgery recovery is going really well, so our family also decided to enjoy a much-needed change of scenery in June. We still wanted to take some reasonable precautions and stay closer to home, so we ended up visiting Lincoln City, Oregon, a beach town about a two-hour drive away.
The views from our hotel alone were worth it. It's almost impossible to take a bad picture of an Oregon coastal sunset.
While mostly a vacation, I also managed to sneak in some writing research during our 3-day stay. I'm wrapping up edits on a brand new, 3-book Magic of Nasci trilogy that follows right after the events of Soaring in Air. There's nothing quite like hiking underneath the very trees I imagine Ina protecting with her elemental magic.
For those of you clamoring for more nature wizard adventures, Rising Scorn, Book 6 of the Magic of Nasci series, is releasing August 4th! I'll have a preorder link and cover reveal available soon. Ina will have to deal with the magical aftermath of Rafe's run of terror on the Pacific Northwest. She'll also meet the more rigid shepherds that live on the Mt. Rainier homestead. Here's a snippet from the intro, just to get you pumped:

I’d been traveling through the secluded trees of the Siuslaw forest, far away from human civilization, using tree portals called wisp channels. I’d been on my way to the coast when an unnatural gust of wind burst past me, and I heard an awful commotion in the canopy. When I poked my head above the treetops, I spotted the jackal with a limp owlet in its teeth.
This scene kicks off a daring rescue of the owlet plus a mystery that adversely affects the monsters that venture through the vaettur portals.
