When my youngest child was 2 years old, she didn't understand her older sister's obsession with M&Ms. I'd give her a piece, she would suck on it, getting the rainbow color all over her face, but not really tasting the chocolate part.
I finally convinced her one day to bite into it. As she chomped past the candy coating and found the treasure inside, she flashed me a look of shock and delight.
"It's working!" she screamed.
Discovering a new book series is like biting into an M&M for the first time. I started Ilona Andrews's Kate Daniels series and thought the first two books were pretty good, but it wasn't until I delved into book 3, Magic Strikes, that I tasted chocolate. Now I've only got two books left to go, and I'm still gobbling them up.
