February has always been one of the roughest months for me to get through. It's cold and overcast for months on end, and it's far away enough from the holidays that I can no longer ride the high of having just seen my family. That's why during February I often try to treat myself to comfort reads, or those books that always cheer me up no matter what the weather. I recently reread some of my favorite Ilona Andrews books in both the Innkeeper and Kate Daniels series, which never fail to pick me up.
But comfort reads don't stop at my personal reading time. My two girls are now 8 and 10, which means they're old enough to enjoy books without pictures. I've been reading the Harry Potter series to them a chapter a night for a while, and we finished The Goblet of Fire this week (and watched the movie). My fantasy-crazed children loved all the twists and turns, and we'll soon start The Order of the Phoenix.
My eldest daughter's dragon Sapphire holds our current book inbetween readings for safekeeping.
In the spirit of spreading around comfort reads, I've also put the first four books of my Magic of Nasci series on sale. Chasing Lightning is free with no strings attached while Books 2-4 of the series will be on sale in the US/UK Amazon stores through February 13th. If you haven't had a chance to dive into my nature-based fantasy series, now is the time.
Do you have a favorite comfort read? Let me know what needs to rise to the top of my TBR at [email protected].
More Bookish Comforts
Extreme Medical Services Books 1 and 2 are on sale for 99 cents and in Kindle Unlimited for the first time. My author friend Jamie Davis wrote this series, and it's a very unique take on EMTs in an urban fantasy world. Protagonist Dean trained to help humans, but he wasn’t prepared for injured fairies and monsters.
Daughter of the Selkie King is a free fantasy story that features my favorite seal-inspired fae. Delta is one of the Ondine, a water-magic wielding member of the Fair. But she's never so much as dipped a toe in the water. Until now.
The Lady's Last Song is a dark Camelot retelling. In the midst of a war, Guinevere fights to save both her own life and the man she loves, each day coming closer to succumbing to the violent personalities within her.
Until next time, happy adventuring!
