Hey 👋
For the past three weeks, I have been at NYSC orientation camp.
Early morning drills.
Parades.
Group activities.
Command structure.
And saying yes to almost everything.
That experience made me reflect deeply on freelancing and the kind of life I want.
In camp, you do not always have the luxury of choice.
You show up when told.
You move when instructed.
You follow the schedule.
And it made me realize something very important.
I love structure.
But I also love freedom.
I love being able to think.
To read.
To work in my own flow.
To say yes because I want to, not because I have to.
Freelancing gives me that.
Being in camp showed me clearly that I am wired for ownership.
I am wired to build.
I am wired to choose my clients, my projects, and my direction.
And here is another lesson camp reminded me of.
Discipline matters.
Waking up early.
Showing up consistently.
Working with different personalities.
All of that applies to freelancing too.
Freedom without discipline leads nowhere.
But discipline with freedom is powerful.
So while I was away from writing newsletters, I was learning.
Observing.
Thinking.
And I am coming back sharper.
Freelancing is not just about making money online.
It is about designing a life that fits who you truly are.
Camp helped me see that more clearly.
We are back now.
And we are building smarter.
Talk soon,
Samuel Ochuko
