Hi Everyone,
-ette 8 is now live and it's raining cats and dogs! While this summer issue is officially unthemed, it features storm clouds, falling skies--and some memorable feline and canine characters--as well as a mythic journey, and some green valleys/mountain peaks.
We have fresh, new work by:
A.A. Balaskovits, Christopher Citro, Nora Nadjarian, Caitlin O'Halloran, Meg Pokrass, and Mykki Rios. All artwork is by -ette co-editor, Beth Hahn.
The eighth episode, Kittenette, of -ette's companion podcast, pod-ette is live now too:
Pod-ette host, Melanie Hoopes, talks summer food and outdoor sculptures. She visits with Meg Pokrass ("How to Mend a Son's Broken Heart") and Nora Nadjarian ("What They Knew"). Original music is by Chester Jankowski. Cat lovers, this one's for you!
Submissions are now open to Issue 9, "Suffragette" and Issue 10 (unthemed). Full details here.
In other news,
Jose Hernandez Diaz's "The Search" and Matt Leibel's "How to Buy a Snow Globe" are now available in print as part of Best Microfiction 2026 (selected by Diane Seuss). Both are from our Fall 2025: Roulette issue.
Lucy Zhang's, "Layered House," which first appeared in our Winter 2024: Cassette issue, is now available in print as part of Best Small Fictions 2025.
Two stories from -ette made the Wigleaf Top 50 2026 Longlist. Congratulations to Jessica Barlevi ("Forest of Light," Spring 2025) and Tricia Knoll ("The Only Explanation," Winter 2025)!
Warmly,
Nora Maynard
