[4 min read] The ABC system, cool tech & pop-up saunas

πŸ‘‹ Hey. Welcome to issue #66 of The Everyday Athlete Newsletter.

Here are my 3 favourite ideas, learns and resources to help you improve your performance this week (4 min read):

🎯 Sahil Bloom's ABC goal-setting system

Preparing for his first marathon, Sahil Bloom tells the story of getting advice from a marathon legend:

"Make sure you have three goals: An A Goal, a B Goal, and a C Goal."

In the context of the marathon:

He hit his B goal.

The idea is simple:

"During the race, if you start to struggle, people who only have an A Goal (most people!) are likely to fall completely off track. If you have a B Goal and a C Goal, you always have something to keep you pushing."

And soon after the race, he realised the system could be applied to other areas of his life:

"For any arena of life, you can create an A Goal, B Goal, and C Goal. On days when you feel great, you hit your A Goal. On days when you feel ok (most days!), you hit your B Goal. On days when you feel bad, you hit your C Goal."

The ABC system aligns with all the current research on habit formation.

It removes any guilt in not hitting your goal. Because as long as you hit your easy C Goal, it's progress.

It's a good short read.

Struggling to build a habit? Can you use the ABC system?

πŸ“± Cool tech

Last week I shared Game Plan – some of the best AI and wearable tech to improve your performance.

Here’s some other cool stuff I came across:

🌑️ Those at-home pop-up saunas any good?

image

At-home pop-up saunas are flooding social media.

But are they any good?

Well, the most popular brand in Aus can get up to 55˚C.

But all the quality research into the benefits of saunas has been done in temperatures of 80-100˚C...

You might get a sliver of benefit.

But I’d be saving your time and cash on this one.

That's it!

Have a great weekend πŸ€™
