It's Giving Tuesday! Support the Hurley Through our Annual Fund

Dear Families and Friends of the Hurley School,

On behalf of the Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley School (NPHS), we want to thank you for being a part of the Hurley community!

We are so grateful for the efforts of our teachers, administrators, staff, and school community. Over the past months the Hurley has met exceptional challenges - quickly adapting to teaching remotely, devising new curriculum, revamping methods and schedules, empowering children, coaching parents, maintaining community, preparing facilities, providing technology and supplies, and supporting families in need. All of it accomplished with energy and a strong commitment to our children.

In support, if you are able, we ask you to consider a gift to this year’s Annual Fund.

Donate to the Annual Fund

So far this year, NPHS has provided second monitors for the teachers so they can simultaneously view their students and their lesson plan; we helped fund at home learning kits for the students; and we have started a partnership with Handel and Haydn to provide weekly virtual music classes to our youngest grades.

This year’s Annual Fund aims to raise funds so that we can continue to support our school’s needs during this unprecedented time. We support the BPS initiative to start providing air purifiers in classrooms and hope to supplement their efforts. When our students and teachers return to school, air quality should not be the concern. Air Purifiers can help to eliminate airborne viruses, including COVID-19, as well as capture pollutants from our urban environment, making this a great investment to help overall air quality in school.

The Hurley is a tier-one, bilingual K-8 Boston Public School (BPS) located in the South End whose mission is to graduate students who perform at a high academic level in both English and Spanish. With the vast majority of Hurley students living in high poverty, the school relies on the money raised by NPHS in order to bridge the gaps in funding it receives from the Boston Public School System.

NPHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that acts as the development arm of the Hurley School. We are current parents, community members, and volunteers who believe in bilingual public education and see the need to enhance the academic experience of all students at the Hurley. The money we raise has paid for reading specialists; music education; classroom materials, including interactive smart projectors; social/emotional support programs; and more.

Though the pandemic has forced us to reprioritize, our ambitious long term goals remain:

During these difficult and unprecedented times, we can still make positive changes for our students. Each gift we receive is deeply appreciated. Your support means that NPHS can continue to help the Hurley School and its students thrive.

Donations can be made using the enclosed envelope or online at www.supporthurley.org.

Finally, today only, DonorsChoose will match every donation. If you can, consider supporting one of the projects our amazing teachers have requested. You can find more information on the DonorsChoose page:
