Dear Families and Friends of the Hurley,
As we reflect on the past year, full of challenges and uncertainties, we are so grateful and proud of how our school community came together to support one another.
The role of NPHS was as important as ever. Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley School is an independent 501c3 whose mission is to bridge the gaps in funding that the Hurley receives from Boston Public Schools. NPHS continued to raise funds that go directly to supporting the school, such as reading specialists, dual language courses for the teachers, technology and supplies for the classrooms - including air purifiers for each classroom. We helped fund partnerships with the Community Music Center and Handel & Haydn to bring music to the students; we provided critical communication applications such as ParentSquare and SmartPass; and gave recognition back to our amazing teachers with an appreciation lunch.
As we near the end of this school year, we are writing one last time to ask that you consider a gift to Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley School.
Sadly, once again we couldn’t have Tropicaliente, which is our biggest fundraiser and usually covers 80% of our annual budget. Instead, we created a fun series of events over the last few months that brought us together. To date, we have raised almost $25,000 from our Spring Fundraiser Series. We are so grateful to everyone who has already made a donation. We would also like to thank our generous sponsors: John Chambers from Hingham Savings, Steven Cohen and Lynn Deitzer, Preston Lemanski from Lemanski Construction, Brad Sprogis from Sprogis & Neale Real Estate, and Melanie Olinto from Compass.
Our goal is to raise over $30,000 by the end of the school year. This is a huge accomplishment given the circumstances, but still far less than the $100,000 we usually raise from Tropi. Our long-term goals are to remodel our auditorium into a multi-use space, build a STEAM program for our bilingual students, and remodel our schoolyard to enhance learning and play.
Please help us reach our goal. Each gift we receive is deeply appreciated. Your support means that NPHS can continue to help the Hurley School and its students thrive.
Literacy Interventions and Special Education Support
$1,000 will provide for our students who need an extra level of support. NPHS funds literacy intervention sessions for students needing guided reading practice in English and Spanish, and provides materials for special education teachers and school therapists.
STEAM Programing
$500 will help cover the costs of providing materials and technology to ensure our students have what they need to succeed in the classroom.
Improve our Outdoor Playspace
$250 will build a fund for NPHS to invest in the Hurley schoolyard to promote safety, learning, and healthy play.
Professional Development
$100 helps NPHS fund continuing education for our outstanding teachers.
Arts
$50 will help support our music partnerships with both Handel and Haydn Society and the Community Music of Center Boston, providing music classes for the lower grades and a song writing course for the upper grades. With your support, we can ensure that every child at the Hurley will have the enriching opportunities to experience performing arts as part of their education.
We’re looking forward to another great school year ahead! In the meantime, we hope that you and your family have a happy and healthy summer.
Best,
