We have a two more events to round out the school year, and celebrate our amazing students and teachers. We are excited to share with our extended Hurley community the joy and value of bilingual education. Please join us!
"How You Say It" - An evening Celebrating the Gift of Bilingual Education
In lieu of our annual spring gala, please join the Hurley community for a special night to celebrate our core mission of empowering children through bilingual education.
Author Katherine Kinzler, Professor of Psychology at the University of Chicago, will discuss her much lauded new book, “How You Say It: Why We Judge Others by the Way They Talk and the Costs of This Hidden Bias”.
How do language, accent and dialect influence our identities, perceptions and behavior towards others? Why is linguistic discrimination often overlooked? In what ways can exposure to multiple languages help children transcend prejudices and bridge cultural divisions in our society? Come to learn the answers to these questions and to reaffirm your ongoing support for the Hurley School. In the words of Professor Kinzler, “language can divide us, but it can also bring us together.”
Date and time: May 13, 2021 at 7pm
Rumba y Timbal Dance Company
Let’s get up and dance! Help us celebrate the end of the school year with a virtual performance and dance lesson by the professional dancers of Rumba y Timbal Dance Company. A fun event for both kids and adults!
Date and Time: Wednesday, June 9, 2021.
Please consider supporting NPHS with a donation. In past years, 80% of our annual budget was covered by Tropicaliente; its loss has greatly impacted our budget. Your donations help to ensure that all students at the Hurley have the resources needed to succeed in the current environment and thrive in their future.
Thank you for your continued support.
Best,
Frances Blair and Avida Michaud
Co-Presidents, Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley School
About NPHS
NPHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that acts as the development arm of the Hurley School. We are current parents, community members, and volunteers who believe in bilingual public education and see the need to enhance the academic experience of all students at the Hurley. Our mission is to bridge gaps in the funding that the Hurley receives from the Boston Public School System. The Hurley relies on philanthropy to support each of its 350 students. NPHS raises money to facilitate the Hurley’s vision and mission. With your support we can continue to help our students achieve academic excellence.
