Hi ,

I was originally going to write some cute content about making fall treats less of an eating issue, but then I received an email - THE EMAIL. Btw, the fall food content is further down, but first I'm excited to announce:

I PASSED MY NATIONAL BOARD EXAM FOR HEALTH & WELLNESS COACHING!!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ πŸŽ‰

When I decided to pursue the title of Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, I did so with an intention of honing in my skills and achieving a title that would be well-regarded by the medical community. My work with The American Lung Association and clients living with chronic illness provides me with such a sense of purpose. It was important to me that my qualifications were recognized by the doctors they work with. I'm extremely proud to hold this title.

If you want to learn more about the (arduous) process of board certification, scroll down to the bottom of this email for more details.

But for now, on to the Fall Food content!!!

Let's face it: fall is a season of indulgence. From Halloween candy to Thanksgiving feasts, it's easy to overeat and feel meh afterward. But what if we could reframe our relationship with these seasonal treats?

One of the reasons we struggle with fall indulgence is the perception of scarcity. We think Halloween is a one-day event, so we feel justified in bingeing on candy in the "spirit" of the season. Similarly, we often "hold out" for Thanksgiving, only to overeat and regret it later.

Instead of depriving ourselves or overindulging, what if we normalized eating our favorite fall flavors more regularly throughout the season?

This approach can help us:

Avoid cravings: If we enjoy these treats in moderation throughout the season, we're less likely to binge when they're readily available.

Savor the flavors: When we don't feel pressured to eat as much, we can truly appreciate the taste and experience of each bite.

Connect with loved ones: Enjoying fall treats together can be a fun and meaningful way to bond with friends and family.

Here are some tips for normalizing fall flavors:

By adopting a more creative and curious approach to fall eating, we can enjoy the season without the eating overwhelm.

PS. In lieu of writing another email about my health, let's just say, we're coming out of the woods, but not there yet. I've put a pause on my Focus and Scale program, but stay tuned for the re-launch closer to the new year!

Board Certification Info CONT:

The board exam for Health Coaching is run through the  National Board of Medical Examiners (the company that runs the board exam you need to pass before getting a medical license in your state) and unlike many other health & fitness certifications, you have to complete a rigorous process prior to sitting for your test.

To apply to sit the board exam, you must:

  1. Hold a qualified Health Coaching certification (mine is from IIN)
  2. Complete a 3 - 4 month practicum course
  3. Pass 3 assessments and one online exam with your practicum group
  4. Log 50 coaching sessions
  5. Submit paperwork
  6. Wait for approval to apply
  7. Wait for approval to sit the exam
  8. Sit the exam which was 4 hours long and covered the coaching process, coaching session structure, health and wellness principles and ethics - so many ethics!
  9. Wait 6-8 LONG weeks to find out if you passed

I'm happy to report scoring in the 90's in all categories πŸ˜€.

What does this mean for the future of everything JZ? Well, first - so much less anxiety knowing that I passed the test LOL! Second, I am both challenged and fulfilled with the process of establishing wellbeing in our lives. As someone who has had a fair share of health struggles lately, it's been a lifeline to know that there are other ways to feel well, even when working with health challenges. I've seen how designing a personalized plan for health and wellness can provide a life line to my clients and I'll certainly be sharing content that helps you do the same.

I invite you to strike while that "board certification sparkle" is still shiny and book a complimentary foundational chat with me. These sessions are a great opportunity to discuss your health goals, learn more about my approach, and determine if we're a good fit. The link is below.
