The best books (and drinks) for late August

What are your fall favorites?

Dear ,

Starbucks just released their fall menu for 2026. One of their new drinks is the iced pumpkin cream matcha. So, of course, we had to try to make it at home.

Iced Matcha

2 tsp matcha powder

2 oz warm water

8 oz milk (oat milk and matcha are a great mix but there are plenty of options)

2 tsp vanilla syrup

ice

Follow the package directions for your brand of matcha, or add the warm water to the matcha powder and whisk until smooth. Fill an 8 oz glass halfway with ice. Add milk, matcha and stir. Add vanilla syrup for extra sweetness if desired.

Pumpkin Cold Cream

You can buy pumpkin cold cream ready-made or make it yourself. I suppose you can also buy the iced matcha ready-to-serve. I'm a big fan of homemade pumpkin iced chai though, and the pumpkin cream is quick and easy to make -- as well as super affordable!

3 TB heavy cream

2 TB milk (I use dairy 2%)

1 TB pumpkin puree

2 tsp brown sugar syrup

1/2 tsp vanilla syrup

pumpkin spice

Combine all the ingredients except the pumpkin spice and whisk until thick, but not stiff. Pour over iced matcha. I don't use pumpkin spice, but if you do, add a light dusting on top for a fancy finish.

What are your favorite drinks at this time of year? Be sure to reply to this email and let me know!

If you're thinking, "What? Fall menu?! It's still WAY too hot to be thinking about that!" then I have the perfect book for you. The third and final title in the Designer to the Dead series, Creeper in the Sleeper, is the perfect book to round out the season.

Don't miss this campy late-summer read.

Until next time,

Katie O'Keene ☆
