I went to a new restaurant and...

Greetings ,

When you go out to eat, do you like trying new restaurants or do you stick to a few favourites?

Just to remind you (or tell you, if you're new here ...), I am very much a routine person. Once I find something that I like, I keep doing it and that is true for the food I eat as well. So, I go to a small number of eateries (1), where I know I can find something yummy (2).

At these places there are a small number of dishes that I know I will enjoy, so I choose one of them. On rare occasions, I may totally break my pattern and select something different. It doesn't happen very often. But when it does and I enjoy the meal, I tell myself that I should do it more often!

When I was younger, I didn't try different types of food much. We didn't have a huge range of restaurants offering different food styles in my city, but also I just wasn't that interested. Then I travelled.

My first holiday outside Australia was to Indonesia and I went open to trying the local cuisine (3). The food was very different to normal Australian food - full of flavours from spices I had never heard of before. Delicious!

So, back home in my city, did I decide to try every restaurant offering foreign food that I could? No! I tried a few and found a couple of favourites.

Here in Germany I haven't eaten at a heap of restaurants, either. It has mainly been German places or somewhere for a curry (I love a good curry 😋).

So it was a surprise to end up at a Japanese restaurant the other week. May I point out that a friend chose it, not me. But Japan is part of Asia and I tend to like Asian food...

The meal was amazing! Full of a wonderful mix of flavours. Very different to what I would normally order. Why haven't I eaten more Japanese food?!

Do you try different restaurants and dishes, or stick to your favourites? How about food from other countries - do you enjoy trying foreign cuisines? Hit 'Reply' and tell me about your favourites, or also anything you WON'T be trying again...

Have a great week,

Andrea
