Howdy ,
I really enjoy the festivals we have in the middle of the city during the year. Most of them, except for the Christmas Market, are in the warmer months. They add extra colour and life to the place - and are an excuse (1) to eat something outside my 'normal' diet.
As I've said before, I'm a person who loves routines, so it feels good to see little stalls going up and match them to whichever festival it's time for. Then I choose a time to walk around the festival, look at the stalls, and maybe buy something.
Again, as I've already explained, I'm a big fan of Harvest Festival. It's when the middle of the city is filled with farm animals, tractors, and other agricultural things. I feel right at home.
It's usually the last weekend in September.
Which was last weekend.
I looked for the regular activity - it takes a couple of days for them to build the shed where they keep the cows and pigs.
Nothing happened.
Wednesday afternoon the whole area was empty of signs of any festival.
That's not totally true - there were power boxes and portable public toilets - something must be happening...
Thursday there was still nothing agricultural. Had they changed it to a different (later) weekend?
Friday morning something was setting up that explained the power outlets and toilets, but it wasn't Harvest Festival. There were still no alpacas or tractors, pumpkins, or geese.
I was confused 🤔.
Finally, I looked online - and found the sad news 😥. There isn't a Harvest Festival this year. The organising committee has decided to cancel it. They said it was due to a drop in the number of participants.
It's disappointing for this girl from the country.
It's also disappointing for the groups of young city children who don't get many other chances to meet farm animals.
And it's disappointing for the stall holders who did want to be there and show and sell their goods.
I hope it'll be back next year 🤞.
Do you have a favourite festival, ? Do you miss any of the festivals when they cancel for some reason?
Talk to you soon,
Andrea
