What type of person are you {{contact.first_name}}?

Greetings ,

Due to changing our clocks, on Sunday morning I was outside bright and early, enjoying the sunshine. I even surprised myself with the time I got up - it was still quite dark outside!

People generally say they are either a morning person or an evening person. I have considered myself an evening person - I like staying in bed in the mornings, but can sit around (or, in the old days, study) until all hours of the night.

That's not to say that I can't get up and function properly. Back on the farm during my school days, I got up early and milked cows or fed calves before getting ready for school and catching the school bus at around 8:00 a.m.

Work for me back in Tasmania also started at about 8:00 a.m. That was quite early as most office workers start work at 9:00 and people in shops start even later. But at the weekend, I started the days very slowly. And I wouldn't describe my bedtime as 'early'!

That has been the pattern here in Germany, too. I stayed up late, preparing classes (or just filling in time) even when I knew I had to get out of bed early the next morning. At the weekend I definitely wasn't an early riser.

However, that has changed over the last couple of years (thank you Covid Lockdown, Spring 2020?). I have started going to bed earlier. Maybe because of that, I have also started naturally waking up earlier. Not just waking up, but getting out of bed and doing something!

So, in summer this year, I got moving early on Saturdays and caught trains around the place. I couldn't believe what I was doing! Then there were evenings where I didn't use the lights in my flat. I could feel my eyes wanting to close, so I simply went to bed just as it became dark.

I would like to think that I'm listening to my body ... but maybe it's due to my age, too 🫤.

Are you a morning person or an evening person? And have the times you naturally wake up or go to bed ever changed? Remember, you can share your experiences and comments - just hit 'Reply'.

Catch ya (1) next time,

Andrea

(1) ya - short, informal version of 'you', hated by parents and English teachers!
