Hello ,
I know it's a bit late, but Happy New Year! I hope it has started well for you.
At the start of a new year, a lot of people make New Year's resolutions - things that they are going to do regularly in the new year.
I don't make New Year Resolutions. When I was younger I did. Probably they were things like starting (and continuing!) an exercise program or to read regularly. And, just like most people's resolutions, they didn't last much past the end of January.
But the good thing about deciding to start doing something new is that we don't have to wait for 1 January. We can begin at any time of year.
In 2021, I decided that I needed to start doing some exercises each week. I didn't want to go to the gym, I just wanted to do a few strength and stretch exercises at home. It wasn't the start of the year, it was about April. Nevertheless, I started and have done my little set of exercises nearly every week since then.
Yes, I've missed a week from time to time, for example, if I was sick. And sometimes I've had to change the day because I was busy on my regular exercise day. But it is something that I made the decision to do and have stuck with.
Then there was deciding to improve my diet. I didn't start that at the beginning of a year, either. It was about July when I changed what I was eating. But not eating too many sweet things is something else that has become a part of my lifestyle. It wasn't something I did for a while and then stopped doing.
I think for me the reason behind the decision to change is the important thing. I didn't make the changes simply because I knew they were good ideas or becauseI needed a New Year Resolution. My reasons were bigger. It was about keeping my body healthy as I grow older.
Did you make any New Year's Resolutions this year, ? Have you ever made any? Were you successful in keeping them for the whole year, or even longer?
Until next week,
Andrea
