G'day ,
For the last week or so, my neighbours have been busy doing heaps of extra washing and other jobs around their flats.
It took me a moment to realise it's springtime, and they're doing their a
yearly clean!
In my mind, 'spring cleaning' means cleaning your place very thoroughly (1), from top to bottom.
It means washing things like your curtains (2) and the covers of the cushions (3) on your sofa and going around your walls and ceilings (4) to remove cobwebs (5).
It may mean tidying up things in cupboards or organising them so they are neater and easier to find.
Of course, it may also mean deciding to throw some things away, or at least to give them away.
Although I know the term 'spring cleaning' (and the idea sounds great 😀), I can't really say that I've done it. In fact, 'great' is perhaps too positive. It also sounds like a lot of hard work 😑.
Of course, I do regular cleaning jobs around my place, but there isn't anything I do extra, just because it's springtime.
You may remind me that I do my windows in spring - on the first of May every year.
Yes, that's true and I guess technically I'm doing spring cleaning. But I do my windows in autumn, too. No one talks about 'autumn cleaning'...
Hmmm .... spring and autumm cleaning. I clean my windows twice a year - once in May and once in October.
And that's when I change my clothes over, too. I wash all the clothes I've used over the last few months and store them away. At the same time, I get out the clothes I'll need for the coming months.
On second thoughts, besides my windows and clothes, I'm not a spring or an autumn cleaner. Most of the time, I simply do jobs when they need doing - the 'all year round' clean.
Then there's no pressure to do a whole heap of cleaning jobs in any season. Instead, I can do them one by one throughout the whole year 😊.
So tell me, - are you someone who does spring cleaning (or any season cleaning)? Let me know why - or why not!
Happy cleaning 🧹(?),
Andrea
(1) thoroughly - in great detail
(2) curtains - pieces of material hanging in front of wondows that we can pull across, for example, to keep sunlight out
(3) cushions - 'bags' full of soft stuff that we use to make us more comfortable
(4) ceiling - the 'top' of a room, the thing that is at the top of the walls
(5) cobwebs - the really fine 'nets' made by spiders 🕸️
