Everything is prepared, so I can relax 😊

Hey ,

I've made the appointment and organised everything, so I'm ready - I'm getting my income tax done next week.

Most people won't find that exciting. Maybe that shows that although I work with words each day, I'm really a numbers nerd 😊.

I did my income tax myself a few times in Australia. In those days there wasn't an online option. Instead the Tax Office had a book (like a magazine) explaining everything, which had a form for you to fill out and then post to them.

But then I decided to have a professional tax person do it for me. Although the numbers were easy, I didn't know all the things I could include and I was scared of doing something wrong. I had to pay the professional, but that was balanced by the increase in the amount I got back from the Tax Office.

For my first tax return in Germany I needed help! The German Tax Office wanted to know about the money I had earned in Australia that year as well as what I had earned here. Plus, I didn't feel confident enough to fill out the online form myself. So I found a professional (one that spoke English).

It's a very smooth process. I go in with my receipts and other documents. He puts all the information into the form on the computer, prints it out and I sign. It only takes ten minutes or so. Some years I have arrived early and have been finished and back outside at the time my appointment should have started πŸ˜€.

But that means I have to be prepared. To make it easy, I put documents into my tax folder as I get them during the year. Then I don't have to go crazy looking through all my stacks of papers to find what I need. Everything's in the one place, ready to go.

With everything all prepared, now there's just the million dollar question - how much money will I get back this year πŸ€”??

What do you think of tax time? Do you hate looking for documents and worrying about what you can claim or do you have everything organised and ready to go? As always, hit 'Reply' and let me know your thoughts.

Happy Tax Season πŸ€‘,

Andrea
