Hi ,
I finished work at 5:45 last Thursday afternoon and went to the train station.
The train to my town arrived and I got on. I'd be home in just under half an hour. Yay!
We were a bit slow leaving the station. The train driver spoke through the PA system (1) and told us there was a problem at a station that we had to go through. But then we moved off, so everything seemed to be OK.
We travelled a bit slower than usual, however, we were still moving. That was the important thing in my mind.
Just a couple of stations later, we stopped. The driver made another announcement (2), telling us we'd have to wait for a while due to the problem he'd told us about before.
It didn't sound like we'd wait too long, so I stayed where I was. I would have liked to get home and relax, but sometimes these things happen 🥱.
A while later, maybe 20 minutes, the driver told us that because of the problem, the train would end where we were. It wasn't going any further. I didn't want to hear that.
The good thing? There was a tram stop right outside this station. I needed to take a tram, then change to a bus.
The bad thing? It was going to take another 90 minutes to get home. Not happy!!
Dozens (3) of people were waiting for the tram. I stood back and didn't try to get on the first tram - it was too crowded. Plus I knew the next couple of trams would also get me to the bus in time.
I got on the next tram, which was also quite full.
It wasn't as full as the bus!!
I was one of the first ones on and sat by a window because I'd be there almost to the end. Heaps of people tried to squeeze on before the doors closed. It was tightly packed - standing room only.
At 8:20 p.m., the bus pulled into my stop.
Finally, I was home.
I know some of you use public transport to get to work and some drive. How often do things come to a stand still? What do you do? Are you angry and frustrated, or do you stay calm and 'go with the flow'?
Hope you have a great week.
'Bye,
Andrea
(1) PA system (public address system) - the microphone and speakers used when someone talks to a big group of people
(2) an announcement - when someone gives out a piece of news
(3) a dozen - twelve pieces of something. Dozens of things - a group that has several groups of 12 pieces in it.
