Hi ,
I don't know how it's been for you, but this year has felt really l-o-n-g.
For me, a lot of the year was about moving - the search for a new flat (was I ever going to find one?), then organising the move and settling in (2). I'm so glad it all went well - but I'm also pleased that it's something I won't have do again for a few years.
The new flat brought some changes. First, pot plants (3) outside (now I have a balcony π). Hopefully I'll get a few more in spring next year - especially herbs that I can use when I cook.
And cooking. It's really fun having a kitchen π. The other weekend I did heaps of Christmas baking - some Australian (British) things and some German ones.
As a test, I took some of the biscuits to a class for them to try. They ate nearly everything, so I guess my first time cooking German Christmas biscuits must have been OK π«‘.
I packaged up some of the biscuits and gave them to the other people in my building (and introduced myself - finally). It was scary, but also kind of fun - the look of surprise on some people's faces was great to see.
In October one of my sisters visited me. It was lovely seeing her (and her husband). I took them to Obertshausen and they saw my new flat. We also went for a boat cruise - a Frankfurt tourist activity I can now say that I've done.
Although we have the 49β¬ train tickets, I haven't travelled like I did last year. That's fine - I did a couple of trips (including to two Christmas Markets that I haven't visited before). The tickets'll still be around next year.
A highlight of the year for me was meeting some on-line students in person. It was lovely to sit and chat.
And something that wasn't so nice? A day when a technical problem (S-Bahn) and traffic accident (bus) meant it took three hours to get home (Hauptwache - Obertshausen).
This is the last newsletter for this year - I'm going to take a break for a couple of weeks, but I'll be back in Jaunary.
So, let me take this opportunity to wish you a Very Happy Christmas π and a fantastic and safe start to the New Year ππ.
Best Wishes,
Andrea
(1) wrap things up - finish them successfully
(2) settle in - become familiar with somewhere new, feel comfortable and happy there
(3) pot plants - plants that grow in containers (pots), often inside, not in the ground
