I made a mistake yesterday.
It was a busy day for me. I started at 8:30 a.m. and finished at 8:30 p.m. Don't freak out too much - there were breaks 😉.
I finished my second class for the day in the inlingua building. The plan was to go to the toilet and have a quick drink before settling in to the next classroom ready for the arrival of my student. Trouble is, she had just arrived and was in the corridor. It didn't matter - I still had a few minutes.
Back in the classroom, we started the lesson. I made a mental note that we were about five minutes early, so I could finish five minutes before the official end of the lesson.
The trouble was, I got too involved in the lesson. There were lots of things to talk about and work on and I was having fun 😀. Because I wasn't concentrating on other things very well, I also got confused about the time. We finished at 14:00, right? (Spoiler alert - No!)
I kept working with the lady. A bit later I looked at my watch to see if we had time for another activity. This time my brain assumed that the end of the lesson was 13:45 and that was the current time.
As I was about to say no, we didn't have time for the next activity, the truth hit me - we were supposed to finish at 13:30 😳!!
I felt so terrible keeping her 'overtime' and immediately ended the lesson apologising for the mistake. Thankfully she laughed and didn't seem upset, but I don't know what the person waiting for her thought...
This is not the first time I've done this. The last time was back in 2016 and those students (yes, a whole class!) were very upset. So, for all my current students, I apologise in advance for not ending all lessons on time. And if you notice we have gone overtime, please say something!!
