Being taken for a ride (1)

It was an expensive trip!

Greetings ,

Saturday morning, I needed to take a taxi ride. It should have taken about 10 minutes - I checked online to find out the distance, time, and cost.

Away we went, onto a major road.

Then a problem. The exit we should have taken off the road was closed! The driver was shocked. It almost felt like he didn't know what to do. Maybe he just couldn't believe his eyes.

Anyway, we found another way, which was longer. And, of course, having to change plans like that took extra time. My taxi ride cost double what it should have!

That brought back memories of another taxi ride many years ago.

My friend and I were on holiday and we wanted to take a train from the resort town we were staying in to visit a major city. Because we didn't understand the public transport in the area, we decided to take a taxi to the train station.

Now, I admit, we didn't leave much time to travel from our hotel to the station, because we didn't know how long the drive would take.

Off we went. Our driver took us onto a highway. Then we changed to another highway and then another. He was driving really fast.

He kept driving and driving, and we could see the price on the metre going higher and higher.

We had no idea where he was taking us. Finally, we reached a train station, paid the driver, and caught the train.

My friend and I talked about it on the train. We had no idea if he took us the quickest, shortest way, if he took us to a different station because we would have been too late for the train, or if, because he knew we were tourists, he just kept driving to earn extra money.

However, after that experience, we took the bus back from the train station that evening (and we used public transport on all our holidays after that).

It was really easy.

And super cheap!

Do you ever use taxis, ? Have you ever paid a lot more for a trip than you expected? Feel free to share...

Have a fabulous week,

Andrea

(1) to get taken for a ride - has two meanings. The first, you are in someone's vehicle or on their (motor)bike and you travel somewhere with them. The second meaning: someone tricks you.
