Hi ,
We all know the place we live quite well, but what activities have you done that you could recommend to visitors?
Most of my time in Germany I have lived in Frankfurt. When I arrived, I didn't have a work visa, so while I was waiting for it, I went out each day and explored (1) the city. I learned what shops there were and what I could buy in each shop.
Then as part of my job, I have been to a number of buildings around the city - including some of those skyscrapers. So I feel I know Frankfurt very well.
But I haven't done very many of the typical 'tourist' things.
Like a guided tour.
There are a number of them and some are even in English. But I've only heard my English students talk about them.
Or a boat tour on the Main. I've been on cruise boats in Koblenz and Würzburg, but not Frankfurt. And I haven't done stand-up-paddling or been in a gondola, either...
Then there are the numerous (2) museums.
This time it's 'yes' 😀. I've been to a couple of them. I went to see exhibitions that I was really interested in. There have been a few other exhibitions that I should have visited ... but in the end I didn't. Clearly I don't find looking at art so exciting.
I haven't been to the top of the Main Tower.
I have climbed up the Cathedral Tower, but I haven't been inside the Frankfurt Cathedral yet. That's embarrassing (3) as I've been in so many churches and cathedrals in other cities in Europe 🫣.
Is this a general thing? Do we often walk past all the attractions where we live that tourists come to see?
Why?
Is it because we're too busy when we're in our local area and only have time to do something new or different when we're away or on holiday? Or is it because we go past our local attractions so often that we don't really 'see' them anymore?
Are there activities in your area that travellers do when they visit, but that you as someone who lives there hasn't done? Hit 'Reply' and let me know why you think we visit (or don't visit) tourist attractions in our local area.
Have a fantabulous (4) week 😀,
Andrea
(1) explored - travelled through the city to learn about it.
(2) numerous - there in a large number (from the word 'number')
(3) embarrassing - makes you feel uncomfortable and maybe your face will turn red
(4) fantabulous - really great, super (fantastic + fabulous)
