Dear ,
Let's talk about shop assistants.
I often find if I don't have a problem or question, an assistant (or several assistants 😑) will check to make sure I'm OK. But if I need help, there won't be one in sight (or they'll be really busy with another customer or two!).
In Australia, I remember one lady who served me very well. She knew the products in the store and soon learned what I was interested in. So I went back again and again, because of her help and the good experience 😊.
And I've been served by some lovely shop assistants here, too.
I particularly remember a guy in Obi. On one of my visits he was the only one around and it took some time for him to finish with other customers and serve me, but he was super. He explained what I needed to know, plus he made sure I was able to get a discount on the item I bought.
I should also mention (2) the ladies where I buy my winter coats. They are very good at giving useful advice about the fit and style of the coats and will even say when a coat doesn't look so good and why.
People in smaller shops are normally great. Maybe it's because of the clear connection between my purchases (1) and their shop doing well. However, it could also be they know lots about the things in their stores and want to help.
But that's not always the case. Some assistants don't know so much about the products they are selling. And sometimes it feels like the advice they give isn't open and honest, but they say things just so I buy their product.
It's easy for me to complain about shop assistants, but I wouldn't like to be one. You have to be polite and helpful to customers all day, no matter how you feel. Some customers are polite and easy to help. But other customers can be rude (3), impatient, and just not nice!
What are your experiences with shop assistants? Are they helpful? Do they give you good advice? Let me know any stories you have - good or bad!
Until next time,
Andrea
(1) purchases - the things you buy
(2) mention - say something about
(3) rude - not polite, sometimes really not polite!
