My second piece for 1Nation Media — and the argument I think matters most

My first piece on the theme of leveraging media for dawah made the case for a different editorial model.
This one goes back further and asks: how did Muslim media become what it is in the first place?
The answer is three founding decisions: who built it, who funded it, and who it decided to speak to.
None of those decisions were made maliciously. Most weren't made consciously at all.
But they've been inherited and repeated ever since, which is why the problem persists despite genuine talent and sincere effort inside Muslim media.
The section on Gulf funding is the one I'd point you to first. The mechanism it describes applies well beyond Muslim media. I wrote about how funding tacitly selects for certain types of media without issuing directives.
