Hey ,
A few things from today's Virtual Summiteers conversation have been sticking with me.
One was this:
Sometimes you don't know what something is going to become when you start it.
Zakia shared the story of her first Handcrafted Live in 2020. It felt small at the time, but that small event eventually opened the door to things she couldn't have imagined when she started.
(I attended Handcrafted Live in 2024, which is the one I also linked to, It Was Amazing!)
That connected nicely to something else we talked about:
Small doesn't necessarily mean insignificant.
And that's not just true for events.
We also talked about how different people want to experience information differently. Some people want to show up live. Some want the recording. Some want a newsletter. Some want a podcast. Some want absolutely nothing to do with another Zoom call. 😂
Which is a good reminder:
Your audience isn't one person.
And then, of course, we talked about speakers.
The interesting part wasn't really where to find them.
It was realizing how many potential speakers are already around us:
- Customers.
- Communities.
- Partners.
- Previous attendees.
- People we've already had conversations with.
Maybe we don't always have a speaker sourcing problem.
Maybe sometimes we have an attention problem.
Where Do Great Speakers Come From? Your Next One May Already Be in Your Ecosystem
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we managed to talk about AI, podcasts, content lead generation, tools and what we're all working on right now.
Pretty typical Virtual Summiteers! 😉
Next Friday 🎯
What's Your Smallest Successful Event?
Question:
Tell us about an event that felt small but produced big results.
We're taking a break from the idea that an event has to attract a huge audience to be successful.
Bring a story even if the event seemed tiny at the time.
Sometimes the small things are the ones that open the biggest doors.
Hope to see you Friday!
Ericka
P.S.
You don't need to have a $million dollar event story. A small room, a handful of people, one unexpected connection, one great client, one opportunity that counts. Bring that story!
