CONTENT OF THE COURSE:

By the end of this course you will have

• Understood the prevalence of affairs, and different types of affair
• Explored some of the reasons why they happen
• Thought about common reactions to an affair
• Looked at distorted and defeatist beliefs
• Explored what is required in saying sorry and forgiveness
• Helped a (role play) client confront their fears
• Explored how the process of differentiation affects affairs, integrity and blame

ABOUT THE TRAINER: JULIE NEWBERRY PhD

For 10 years, Julie has been a counselling psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and trainer. She has lectured at various Counselling courses in Higher education settings. Whilst volunteering for Samaritans she was a regional and branch trainer for the South East. Prior to this she had a 20-year business career which included a focus on management training and leadership development.

Julie is accredited with both BACP and NCS. She qualified in Integrated Humanistic Counselling and has since taken further qualifications in CBT, couples therapy, counselling supervision and treatment of sex offenders. As an independent practitioner she provides therapy to individuals, couples and groups, both face to face and remotely.

APPROVED FOR CPD: This course has been approved by COSRT – College Of Sex And Relationship Therapists – for 14 hours CPD

THIS COURSE, AND WORKING ONLINE: This course is not intended to be a comprehensive workshop about how to work couples online. Our focus in these workshops is working with couples, and up until now this has always been face to face. Having said that, implicitly you will experience handling online technology, and will be doing ‘couples therapy’ roleplay in 3’s – where one is the therapist and two role play a couple – in breakout rooms. This mirrors doing couples therapy online, and will give you some skills practice at doing that. However, to work with couples online will need further practice and training.
