HOMEWORK: There is approximately 15-20 mins of homework at the end of day 1
CONTENT OF THE COURSE:
By the end of the workshop you will have:
- Watched and analysed a video of a couple using decentring and communication skills
- Practiced listening for values, and helping a couple to discover shared values
- Learnt about 5 different thinking styles (meta-programmes) that people use
- Understood how meta-programme differences are a significant source of conflict
- Learn what your personal meta-programme preferences are
- Learn about language patterns that make communication easier
- Practiced working with these issues in a role play situation
The content for this workshop is based on the de-centring model of Dr Michael Crowe and Jane Ridley; and on meta-programmes from Neuro-Linguistic Programming
ABOUT THE TRAINER:
NICOLA JONES has worked with couples since 2006. She is Relate registered, accredited by the National Counselling Society and a member and Vice Chair of the International Attachment Network. She has a private practice in Portishead and Bristol where she works with individuals, couples and families. Nicola has an MA in Gender Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (2008), has trained in family systems therapy with the Institute of Family Therapy, trained at The Bowlby Centre for 2 years. Nicola has considerable experience of, and her clinical work is significantly informed by attachment theory with its links with neuroscience, infant development and developmental psychology.

HOMEWORK: There is 1 hour homework at the end of day 1 (a video to watch before day 2), and 20 minutes homework at the end of day 2 (an exercise to complete before day 3).
CONTENT OF THE COURSE:
By the end of this course you will have:
- Understood the 6 needs according to Human Needs Psychology
- Looked at where you are with regards to these needs
- Thought about the stages of a relationship
- Have watched and discussed some video of Anthony Robbins working
- Discussed the ‘imago’ concepts of Harville Hendrix and Helen Hunt
- Explored developmental stages (attachment theory), and couple dynamics
- Practised working with these issues as a therapist

ABOUT THE TRAINER: JULIE NEWBERRY
For 10 years, Julie has been a counselling psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and trainer. She has lectured at various Counselling courses in Higher education settings. Whilst volunteering for Samaritans she was a regional and branch trainer for the South East. Prior to this she had a 20-year business career which included a focus on management training and leadership development.
Julie is accredited with both BACP and NCS. She qualified in Integrated Humanistic Counselling and has since taken further qualifications in CBT, couples therapy, counselling supervision and treatment of sex offenders. As an independent practitioner she provides therapy to individuals, couples and groups, both face to face and remotely.

SIX MODULES ON HOW TO WORK WITH COUPLES: These courses are part of the six module workshop organised by Juliet Grayson, for people who want to learn about working with couples or enhance their current skills. CANCELLATIONS: Any request to change (eg defer to alternative dates) or cancel your place at a workshop, that is made at less than 21 days before the course start date will be charged in full.
