Asawa, LACMA, and Hoodies Oh MY

Hello you beautiful MuseumTrade Folk,

I'm writing this before our hell week. We have just one week (as in 5 days) for layout, hang, mount, label, plex clean, graphics, tidy, etc.... OH MY. I hope your 2022 schedule is off to a good start. Don't forget to snap a few shots along the way. Let everyone know what you're up to. Show us the tips and tricks you're pulling off right now. No trick is too small, no tip is insignificant. Keep those articles and guides coming, we're great together. Here are a few from the site. Enjoy!

INSTRUCTIONS: How to Handle Ruth Asawa’s Hanging Metal Works

image

Ruth Asawa’s works are popular for a reason, they are ethereal and beautiful. They are also fragile due to the nature of being woven metal. She has provided and excellent HOW TO guide for her most difficult works, the hanging basket forms. I care to preserve all cultural significant objects, they could be in-hand OR in your hands. Either way, I want to preserve Ruth’s works. Perhaps you have an Asawa in your collection and no instructions to work from. You could “go for it” and be as careful as can be or read on and preserve Ruth’s works to the best possible degree.

🗒️ Do Not Touch Signage Example at LACMA

image

My apologies for not being a crack reporter and investigating fully, there was so much to take in, I think it’s vinyl.

Gallery signage at large is fraught with opinions and DNTs, as I call them on my computer, are no exception.
