Why stress can make you feel bloated

A simple look at cortisol, water retention, and why recovery changes how your body feels.

Ever gone through a stressful time when not only were you mentally stressed, but felt bloated and just, blah? And then, when the stress finally lifted, all that bloat melted away like magic?

It wasn't just your imagination.

It was because one of your body's main stress hormones, cortisol, can 1) cause inflammation and 2) make you retain water.


So, when you finally destress and get a good night's sleep, your body lets that water and inflammation go.


And you feel lighter and leaner!

But stress isn't just linked with bloating. Chronically elevated cortisol levels are also tied to weight gain.
