Codependency: The Illusion of Connection

image

Buongiorno,

My latest article for Codependency Recovery is about the false sense of connection codependents feel in relationships. And that false connection can result in toxic and abusive relationships.

I can remember saying to people who questioned my lousy choices in relationships – I feel such a deep connection with him! But it was a big mistruth (a gentler way of saying I was lying to myself). My truth was intertwined with my abandonment and rejection wounds, manifesting as deep codependency. The very foundation for unhealthy, abusive relationships.

By its very nature, codependency is an unhealthy reliance on others for emotional support, self-worth, or validation. While this might seem like a form of connection, codependency is, in reality, a false sense of connection. It is a deceptive bond that can lead to the erosion of personal identity, autonomy, and true intimacy. In this article, I’ll explore how and why codependency masquerades as connection but ultimately fails to fulfill the deeper need for authentic relationships.
