Scam Warning - When conducting EICR (electrical safety inspections), some electricians insist that plastic consumer units (fuse board) must be changed, which they claim is a requirement.

If the property is in the process of being built or the fuse board needs to be changed for other rare reasons. Then it is correct that the new fuse board must be metal casing.

Existing installations with plastic fuse boards do not need to be changed. Even if one of the MCB's is faulty, these can be changed, and the average cost of an MCB is £5.

Some electricians are wrongly insisting the fuse board must be changed and are charging anything between £750 to £1500, which is a rip off!

The cost of a fuse board range from £60 to £80 and include RDC and MCB's.

The average time to change a fuse board is about 2 to 3 hours. At £100 per hour, one can calculate a fair price should you require a new fuse board.

We are writing a comprehensive article on this subject within the next 3 days; please read it when published.
