Here is a recap of our message from this weekend...

ALTAR'D: ALTAR'D SACRIFICE

image

In The Living Altar, Pastor Jared challenges us to move from offering things to offering our lives. Pulling from Romans 12:1 and Malachi 3:10, he unpacks what it truly means to become a living sacrifice — not holding back any area from God. This message pushes us to surrender fully, test God’s faithfulness, and trust that our obedience unlocks His abundance.

Pastor challenged the whole congregation to participate in our 90 Day God's Guarantee Giving Challenge. To learn more and accept the challenge click the button below and sign up:

Weekly Bible Study List

  1. Romans 12:1 (NIV) — “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
  2. Malachi 3:10 (NIV) — “Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven…”
  3. 2 Corinthians 9:6 — “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”
  4. Luke 6:38 — “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over…”
  5. Proverbs 3:9–10 — “Honor the Lord with your wealth… then your barns will be filled to overflowing…”

The Sunday Outline & Notes

Pastor Jared opens with a relatable moment — giving someone a ride and then realizing your car’s a disaster. We often try to “clean up” just enough to appear presentable. Spiritually, we do the same with God. We offer Him pieces of ourselves but hold back the parts we’d rather keep hidden.

Point 1: The Sacrifice is Expected, Not Extreme

Sacrifice isn’t just for pastors or missionaries — it’s the baseline expectation for every believer. Pastor Jared uses a brilliant car-loan analogy to show that everything we have is from God. Giving back to Him isn’t generosity — it’s stewardship.

Point 2: The Sacrifice Tests God, Not You

Malachi 3:10 is the only place in Scripture where God invites us to test Him. The altar isn’t a place of pressure but of promise. God challenges us to experience His provision by trusting Him first.

Point 3: The Sacrifice Comes With a Guarantee

When we surrender fully, God promises to “throw open the floodgates.” We’re not called to live in scarcity but to overflow. Pastor Jared reminds us that when we hold back, we block the blessings God wants to pour out.

Application

The 90-Day Challenge

  1. One City Church issues a bold faith challenge — tithe for 90 days, and if God doesn’t move, they’ll refund every dollar. Why? Because it’s not their guarantee — it’s God’s. And He never fails.
