Here is a recap of our message from this weekend...

Day One: Navigation Training

This Sunday at One City Church was a unique and Spirit-led day, as both Pastor Adam and Pastor Jared shared the pulpit across the services. Pastor Jared began by expressing heartfelt gratitude for Pastor Adam, who stepped up to preach the first two services when travel delays prevented Pastor Jared from arriving until later in the day. He highlighted Pastor Adam’s faithfulness, leadership, and pivotal role in the church, inviting the congregation to honor him for his incredible service. It was a cool moment.

Next, Pastor Jared transitioned into a sermon that explored the power of God’s Word as a guiding, sustaining, and transforming force in our lives. Using Psalm 119:105 as a foundation, Pastor Jared explained how Scripture illuminates our path, nourishes our spirit, and challenges us to change. The message encourages believers to prioritize, meditate on, and share God’s Word, making it a daily source of clarity, purpose, and transformation.

Weekly Bible Study List

  1. Psalm 119:105 – "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
  2. Joshua 1:8 – "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it."
  3. Hebrews 4:12 – "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword..."
  4. Matthew 4:4 – "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
  5. James 1:23-24 – "Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror..."

3 Things the Word of God Do in our Lives

  1. Scripture Guides Us - Drawing from Psalm 119:105, Pastor Jared explains how Scripture acts as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Just as ancient oil lamps provided enough light for one step at a time, God’s Word offers us guidance for each moment, even if it doesn’t reveal the entire journey.
  2. Scripture Sustains Us - Matthew 4:4 highlights the necessity of spiritual nourishment. Just as physical food sustains our bodies, the Word of God sustains our souls. Pastor Jared compares consuming Scripture to fueling up for a workout—without proper nourishment, we lack the strength to face life’s challenges.
  3. Scripture Changes Us - Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that the Word of God is alive and active, sharper than a double-edged sword. Pastor Jared emphasizes that Scripture should not only inform us but also transform us, challenging our habits, priorities, and assumptions. James 1:23-24 likens the Word to a mirror, reflecting areas where we need change and calling us to act.

From Sermon to Action

Pastor Jared concludes with a challenge for this week:

  1. Prioritize God Daily – Make time for Scripture daily to ensure God’s truth shapes your mind and heart. If you need a place to start, you can start with the book of Romans.
  2. Meditate on the Word – Reflect on what you read and apply it to your life. Keep reading until you find something you can apply to your life.
  3. Share It with Others – Read Scripture with a friend or loved one and discuss its impact.
