We shouldn’t have to ask

image

Dear friends,

I want to share with you a beautiful custom that many do before Yom Kippur.

We approach one another and hold out our hand asking for a piece of honey cake, Lekach. We receive it and are wished a sweet year.

Through this act we are symbolically telling G-d that if He has decreed us to have to beg from another human being this year, let the decree be fulfilled through our asking for honey cake. We shouldn’t need to be at the mercy of another person. All of our sustenance, needs, desires and wishes should be granted with an open arm and with revealed blessing directly from He who gives us life and sustains the world.

My offer to you is to fulfill this custom tomorrow. Come by my home tomorrow anytime between the hours of 12:00-3:00 pm to ask for a piece of ‘Lekach’ and be blessed with a sweet New Year.

Shana Tovah and have an easy and meaningful fast,

Mussy
