Dear All
As you know, we were delighted to appoint Bjorn as our new MD/Conductor of BSO on Friday and he has asked me to share with you a message:
Dear Friends and Colleagues, the Committee and Ann
It is with great joy and pleasure that I have today received the news that you would like to me to continue to work together with your wonderful orchestra to create music!
I am deeply honored and profoundly grateful to be appointed as your Principal Conductor. This opportunity to lead and collaborate with such a talented and dedicated ensemble fills me with immense excitement for the musical journey ahead.
I am committed with complete integrity, as I hope you can already tell from the short period that we have worked together to fostering a shared creative environment where our collective passion for music-making can flourish. Together, we will, and have already explored the depths of each score, embracing the hard and detailed work required to bring every note to life with precision and creative artistry. My goal is to inspire and be inspired, crafting performances that resonate with emotional depth and innovative spirit, filled with joy, delight, unexpected nuance and creative flare and celebrating our shared creative vision with our audiences.
I look forward to building positive, collaborative relationships with each of you, grounded in mutual respect and a shared dedication to excellence. Your artistry and commitment are the heartbeat of this orchestra, and I am eager to join you in creating music that moves and uplifts our audiences.
With heartfelt thanks and anticipation for the inspiring work we will do together
Very best wishes
Bjorn Bantock
Thank you, Bjorn - we're looking forward to working with you too!
Ben Phillipis and Bjorn are already working hard on putting together the programme for next season, taking into account a lot of feedback we've had from Section Leaders and members. It's shaping up to be very exciting!
I'm not going to announce any of that now as it's not quite finalised... but watch this space.
Don't forget that Bjorn was my podcast guest last month. To listen to that episode:
We still have spaces for Violins and Violas for the Rotary Young Musician's Masterclass on June 22nd 2-4pm at Bedford School. It's such a fun event where we accompany young talented soloists playing, often for the very first time, their pieces with an orchestra! We have one little girl this time who is only 10! It's such a privilege to be part of a moment that these young musicians will remember for the rest of their lives and Ian does an amazing job of making it focussed and enjoyable for everyone.
If you're interested in being a part of it, email me today please and I'll pass on your email to Alex Collins, leader of Sinfonia.
Committee News:
Many thanks to the Section Leaders and Leaders of Sinfonia/BSO who came to a session last Wednesday where we looked at the future vision of both orchestras and how we can improve. I asked them to think about what can ALL do to help. We will be continuing our work on this into next season. For Section Leaders who attended and who would like a copy of the minutes, please email me - hit reply!
Finances:
Many thanks to Jo for her very insightful presentation on our finances last week. You can find a copy of the notes from that session here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13uFT5ph-bwDLQAUEVVQD5FPngkZaudoU/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=103686532259604095936&rtpof=true&sd=true
