How do you practice self love?

Hi ,

How are you? I hope that everything is going well with you.

As for me, I could say that things aren’t that good recently. I’ve been stressed and tired with all the things I am doing, coupled with bad news from some people close to me.

Being an over thinker, I always try to look on the bright side of this situation by thinking of happy thoughts, having more conversations with my loved ones, reading books, playing video games, and most especially, watching Korean dramas.

As I was thinking of something to share with you, I thought that this topic is something relatable. I would always see my Facebook friends sharing Kdrama feels, memes, and even spoilers.

As for me, I started watching KDramas back in 5th year college. It became a form of reward for me after a long day of classes, internship, and thesis writing.

I think that some people would agree that KDrama is more than just a series as it serves a small treat after a tiring week, or sometimes, we get some insights or lights from a series.

I would like to talk about one of my favorite Kdramas which is Hospital Playlist.

If you are not familiar with it yet, it is a story of five doctors who have been friends ever since they entered medical school.

I don’t want to spoil you in case you haven’t watched it yet but I really like all of the characters, most especially Chae Song Hwa (or Jeon Mi Do in real life).

Being someone emphatic, I can relate to her since she has a character who listens and gives advice to her friends most of the time.

I saw myself in her. I used to be the one who always listened to my friends and loved ones ever since grade school up to now.

I would always think of them and would always prioritize them. I became used to it but there also came a point that I got tired, and felt that I was just absorbing all the negative emotions and stories.

I guess I kind of changed during that moment. I became snappy and found myself being irritated at times.

Luckily, a friend once reminded me that “You know, you cannot give what you do not have.” I was struck because it was true.

How can I be a good friend, a good listener, and someone who gives good advice if I myself don’t practice self-love?

Relating it to Song Hwa, I realized that she can easily be a reliable friend and colleague because she practices self-care.

It is in mundane things like having time for camping, enjoying her cups of coffee, and even buying things that may be small to give her joy.

She is able to rejuvenate and give herself more to others after that. I realized that it is also applicable to all of us.

There is only one you, and you are also important.

I wrote this to remind you that we also deserve the love we give to others.

At the end of the day, we cannot give what we do not have.

We have to take care of ourselves so we can take care of everything else we want to take care of.

We have to love ourselves in order to better love others.

Sincerely,

Kyra
